Some may think it was strange of us to choose Sunset as a theme for our first issue, what with all the connotations of endings. For us, though, watching the sun sink below the horizon—whether that be mountains, trees, or the sea—is a beginning. An invitation to dream. Putting together this issue has been an immense pleasure for the Snoozine flock, and watching the seed of an idea flesh itself out into this pastel-tinted dreamscape has been amazing. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a piece to us. We look forward to hearing more from you again in the next issue! For all the readers, we hope you’re able to kick back and enjoy the stories we collected. May they live in your dreams rent-free!
From Jessi, Editor-in-Chief and Sandmaster
When Jerome bade us collect stories about sunset, I expected a lot of them to be about the sun, and while, yes, we did get one or two (amazing) sun stories, we got so many more thoughtful interpretations. I was gagged, gooped, gobsmacked—all the g’s—over the quality of submissions we saw this round. We put together an amazing roster of writers for this issue, so I hope everyone reading will enjoy their hard work.
From Randall, Staff Editor and Website Manager
It’s hard to know what to expect when you set out on a new venture, and I really couldn’t predict how our first issue of Snoozine was going to turn out. Would we be flooded with entries? Would anyone care to submit to a magazine run by a talking cartoon crow?
In the end, I was so happy to see the submissions we received, and I’m pleased with the quality of the content as well! We hope Snoozine will only continue to grow and improve with time because we truly are passionate about speculative fiction. It’s always fun to see the unique places people will take the interpretation of a theme, and our first issue writers did not disappoint.
Check back often, and keep sending us those stories that live in the dreamscape of the mind. Thank you for trusting Jerome and the flock with your hard work and energy!
From Suzanne, Staff Editor and Graphic Designer
I think as the seasons changed and our cute little Jerome fell asleep, we were afraid that he wouldn’t be sent any dreams. Thankfully, that fear was unfounded.
I couldn’t believe how many submissions we had for our first issue–in such a great way! I can’t wait for Snoozine to reach wider horizons so we share Jerome’s dreams, and soon, his nightmares. I hope you love all these carefully selected stories because I know we do!
From Kirsten, Staff Editor and Social Media Manager
Man, what a wild ride it’s been to get us to this point! This started as a tiny seed and it has grown into something amazing. I loved reading your submissions, and while the sun is setting on this issue, it will rise once again. I hope we get more wonderfully dreamy submissions for our next issue and that, like us, you’ll find a home here at Snoozine where speculative fiction reigns supreme. I’m so proud of all the hard work Jessi, Randall, and Suzanne have put into this thing called Snoozine, and I am so astronomically thankful to you, our wonderful authors, for submitting to us and making one of our dreams come true. This magazine has really been a labor of love, and I can’t imagine working on it with anyone else.
