Float Through Space
In two month’s time, the Snoozine flock and invited crows will gather in a field of wispy grass and wildflowers to witness the launch of Cosmos, Snoozine’s first commercial space explorer. For the month of October, we will be receiving applications (specified as fabulous pieces of speculative fiction and corresponding art) to send into space with it. All interested parties should suit up and submit for a chance for their art to dwell among the stars.
We are thrilled to announce that we will soon open for submissions for our second volume (!). Throughout October, we will be open for submissions for the Dream Issue: Cosmos. In preparation for this issue, we encourage you to take a night walk, wipe the dust off your telescope for a look at distant galaxies, and bathe in the moonlight. We hope you will channel the wonder of the Universe in awe-inspiring pieces!
Thematic Guidelines: Blanketed in Stars, Protected by Planets
Put on your cosmonaut suits, Dreamers, and join us for a flight to faraway galaxies. Take hold of the constellations and swing yourself into a sea of stars. Let the trepidation of the first steps on a new planet lead you through the adventure of a lifetime. The Universe can be a terrifying place, but for this issue, we want to fill the void with hope.
A few themes we encourage our Dreamers to explore with this issue include exploration, discovery, hope, and mysticism. Ask yourself how the cosmos might draw these out of your stories. The darkness of the Universe might frighten some—and we would love to see the fear of the Universe woven into your stories, too—but when we let go of that fear, we open ourselves to the possibilities of new worlds, new life forms, new possibilities. This is your opportunity to chase your dreams to the furthest, darkest corners of the Universe, and we hope you’ll write stories that take us right there with you.

Explore Foreign Galaxies With Us
Eager travelers, we await your tales of adventure and exploration. Craft pieces that thrust us into distant galaxies where we befriend otherworldly beings. Sound doesn’t travel in space, but your stories can. Cosmos is preparing for launch, and we hope you’ll be among the pieces we ferry through the universe.
Use the stars as a guide to our submissions form.
What the Editors are Looking For:
Jessi: Hi, Dreamers. It’s me, resident weirdo, Jessi. Even in an issue wrapped in neochrome space dust, I’m looking for something that appeals to my oddball sensibilities. Weird fiction is always welcome in my book, but things that are just plain weird are also great. Think space cowboys 🤠 or true alien superstars👽. I am also a fan of hopepunk, and I believe an issue like this is the perfect opportunity to put this rising subgenre into the spotlight. Mostly, I want to see space exploration as something to celebrate, not as an extension of American imperialism (🤮). Remember the awe you felt as a kid when you looked at the stars? Try translating that into your pieces.
Randall: The cosmos have held humanity’s attention since we first looked up and became aware of the stars. 🌃 Though space is often associated with technology and futurism, don’t think that we’re only looking for stories set on space shuttles and orbital yards. Fantasy characters can look to the stars for guidance, and horror protagonists may find more than they bargained for lurking in the night sky.👾 I always want to see stories that are driven by engaging and believable characters, but add to that the dreamy element of the unknowns amongst the stars.🌠 Show me the immensity of the cosmos, whether that place is an ominous danger or a welcome comfort to your world.
Suz: Not that I can beat Jessi’s start, but I’ll call out to all those Misfits and Magic Makers out there 😉. If you’ve written a story that hits that sweet spot where fantasy meets sci-fi, now is your chance to submit 🌌. Why even choose between the stars and spellcraft when you could have both?!🪄 Send over some Science Fantasy! I love stories where the heroes have heart—maybe a tale of superheroes in the cosmos? 🌠 I’d also love to see some found family sprinkled in during this cycle. Because what’s better than a squad of mismatched adventurers? A squad of mismatched adventurers who become family. 😤
Kirsten: There is nothing better in a story than a magical creature🐉. I am obsessed with them, and most of what I write features them in some way, but I also love to read about them. Give me star whales or celestial dragons, creatures made of starlight, or even just animals associated with the moon or the stars 🌙. Make them the main point of your plot instead of just mentioning them in passing. If you can’t find a way to incorporate a creature, then give me societies that thrive under the light of the moon and the stars–gardens made of moonlight, houses made of stardust, and magic that can rearrange the cosmos🌃. And if you’re able to throw in a splash of romance? Absolute perfection ❤️.
